About Kume: Turning Point Diarie‪s‬ by Yelka Kamara
Originally from Sierra Leone, I descend from a lineage of Finah, storytellers, oral poets, and historians, tasked with preserving the culture and relaying the most difficult parts of a society. We all have something unique and yet universal to say that can resonate with another human being. I created this podcast to tell stories that inspire and empower people to move forward. Growing up in New York City, my father would always talk about the importance of stories and remind me and my siblings of our Finah heritage. However, I didn’t fully understand the power of storytelling until I sought out therapy and began to tell my own story. This introspective journey made me realize how deeply critical moments affect someone. I have not only learned how freeing it is to tell stories, but how much there is to learn from listening to others as well.
